  1. Goes well with her two sisters’ names, pretty and classic and timeless.

  2. We chose it for several reasons:
    -it’s classy and timeless
-it’s French origin, my husband is French

    -we love its meaning (Wisdom)
    We love everything about it!

  5. Her daddy picked her name, Sophie. When he suggested it I just knew THAT was her name!

  6. I chose Sophie because I always likened the name and never met a Sophie in my personal life. Sophie means wisdom and that has been our prayer for our sweet baby girl is that she would have wisdom and discernment in this tumultuous world. Her middle name means God is gracious, and God is merciful. We thought both names were fitting considering the fact we lost our first baby in the second trimester last year

  7. It’s a cute name. It’s delicate and feminine. The meaning of her name is “wisdom.”

  8. my uncle Mark’s dog is called Sophia but they always called her Sophie for short and I think it’s a pretty and nice name

  9. Sophie isn’t just a nickname, though it can be used that way, it’s actually the French version of Sophia.

  10. Sophie (Hebrew) means “My End.” Which personally it means “She’s my end. And she will be my Heaven. Sophie is my last and only. (I for one, after 2 marriages am still looking hard, . .for Sophie).

  12. When my husband and I were dating, we watched “Letters to Juliet” and the main character’s name was Sophie. We fell in love with the name and decided then we would name our daughter after her (we knew we were going to end up married and have kids).

  14. We love how it is a soft name and that it means wisdom.

  15. I chose Sophie because I wanted my daughter to have a fairytale name. I really enjoyed the movie Howl’s Moving Castle and how the main character was an ordinary girl who worked at a hat store that her father had left behind. She was very humble, shy, well-kept, and held herself in high regards when it came to her routines. She didn’t outwardly express herself often, but when she did she was articulate, passionate, and bright-eyed. I loved that character so much that I named my daughter exactly after her.

I only wish Sophie was her nickname at times since I like Sophia, but there is no longer version of the name. I’m happy with it regardless, it’s a small nitpick.
The only other thing is that her name doesn’t flow (meaning wise) but I always kind of liked names with hidden meanings that were somewhat or at least sound intended when you look up what they mean.

    No, that was it.

  16. I think it’s a lovely name with a lovely meaning. Sophie means wisdom and I hope she’ll grow to be wise and kind.

  21. We had three girls names picked out and that one just felt the most right. We ended up picking it right before I went in for the c section at 36 weeks. The only thing I dislike about it is that people call her Sophia quite often. Love that it’s an easy name for her to say, spell, and is classic!

  22. I got the name from holloween town i always thought it was a beautiful name. And my husbands friends name was sophie and she passed away

  23. It’s a family name (my husband’s great Aunt)

  24. Sophie is derived from the Greek, sophos, which means wisdom. Both my husband I studied Greek in college and have translated parts of the New Testament. The word is also feminized in Proverbs so we can still claim it as a Biblical name. With our first daughter, we stuck with family names (Elisabeth Grace), with Elisabeth also being my middle name, and named after the missionary Elisabeth Elliot. When we found out we were having another girl, we thought this time we’d deviate from family names and choose names we both liked and found significant. Sophie Alethea literally means Wisdom and Truth, which I thought would be handy if I ever wanted to inscribe my daughters’ middle names as tattoos around my ankles (hence, Grace and Truth).

  25. Sophie means wisdom. I love that meaning and it sounds like a sweet name too!

    • And Sophie (Hebrew) means “My End” which personally to me it means “She’s my end. And she will be my Heaven. Sophie is my last and only. (I for one, after 2 failed marriages am still looking hard, . .for Sophie).
