Share Your Thoughts 2 Comments Allison Oct 18 at 5:10 pm I loved the name Magdalena as soon as I heard it. My husband grew to love it too and that’s what we named our first daughter! I love the Biblical tie to Mary Magdalene. Most people in our life call her Maggie (we do as well) but we planned for that, we liked Maggie as a nickname going into it. Reply Catherine Aug 14 at 9:23 am Magdalena comes from St. Mary Magdalene in the Bible. She, John the Apostle, and Mary, Jesus’ Mother were the only 3 people that stayed with him at the foot of the cross through his hardest times. Mary Magdalene is known for her passionate love for Jesus and not really caring what other people thought of her. She came from a bad past in that Jesus expelled seven demons from her. “She who has been forgiven much loves much.” I don’t care if my baby girl is smart, athletic, wealthy, any of these things. I want to teach her to love well and love much, to be resilient to get up from her falls and try again like Mary Magdalene did, and to trust in the love of God and others and not let peer pressure make her pretend she’s somebody she’s not. Also her father and I have both independently travelled all over the world and lived in many countries. We like the universality of the name Magdalena. The downfall is that Americans will probably call her Maggie, haha, which is not very universal. Reply Share your thoughts on the name Magdalena Cancel ReplyYour email address will not be published.
