  1. I wanted to name all of my kids swedish names. My eldest is Kajsa, then comes Solveig and Astrid. They were all girls and then I got pregnant and had my first boy. We wanted to name him something special in Swedish because we live in Sweden. We chose Bjorn which means bear. Since we live in Sweden we changed Bjorn to Bjorn which is the Swedish name! We love him so much and he reminds us of a little bear which is exactly what his name means.

  2. We first heard the name Bjorn while watching Vikings and we both thought it was really cool. It means Bear in Danish. My husband’s grandmother is directly from Denmark and I thought it would be cool to have a name that would carry on his heritage. Before I was even pregnant or before we chose the name, we always said we would do a woodland creature nursery theme for a boy. So of course we have bears everywhere! The only thing we were unsure of was the fact that it’s not English so everyone would probably pronounce it with a hard J. In Danish, a J makes a Y sound. Only a few people have so far so that’s not too bad but a lot of people say “Beeyorn” and it’s really annoying lol

  3. My husband actually chose the name Bjorn. He was watching a movie and that’s how he learned of that name. I’m all about names having a great meaning to hopefully positively impact and motivate a child. However, I’m not a big fan of the meaning of Bjorn. It means “bear”. I mention it to someone and they said, “wow, that means strong” and I was like, “well, that’s a positive spin, I guess we can say it means strong…strong like a bear…lol.”
The great thing about Bjorn though is that it fits in well with the theme my husband and I have for naming our children. My husband’s name starts with a B and my name starts with a J and our theme is to have our children’s first names starting with a “B” and their middle names with a “J.” The other cool thing about Bjorn is that our first son’s nickname is BJ and so even though the “j” in Bjorn is pronounced like an “e” I really like that the first two letters spell BJ.
